The Woodland Ferry

The most famous ride is on the Cape May – Lewes ferry. But one of the oldest ferries in America is in Sussex County Delaware.

The Woodland Ferry is a historic crossing along the Nanticoke River in Seaford, Delaware. It's one of the oldest ferries in the United States, established by James Cannon it has been running since the 1740s. It was originally known as Cannon's Ferry, then renamed the Woodland Ferry to distance itself from the evil and infamous serial killer and slave runner, Patty Cannon.

Today, the ferry operated by DelDOT and the vessel is named after Tina Fallon, a longtime Sussex County representative. The ship can transport up to six cars.

The Ferry typically runs from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily during spring and summer, with adjusted hours in the fall and winter.

Check the DelDOT website for the Ferry schedule, and plan your ride on this historic river crossing. The Woodland Ferry - Delaware Department of Transportation (deldot.gov)
