Have you biked the Gordons Pond Trail yet? If not, this is a great time of year to check it out!
The Gordons Pond Trail is located in the Cape Henlopen State Park with access via the Lewes parking area or the Rehoboth parking area. The trail winds along the western side of Gordons Pond, a 900 acre great salt lagoon which is filled with area plants, wildlife, & breathtaking views.
The southern end of the trail begins at the Gordons Pond parking area located in Rehoboth Beach. The northern access point begins at The Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes at the bottom of the Herring Point parking area. Along the trail you will find an overlook onto the lagoon where nature lovers can spot all the areas birds & wildlife. From the overlook, the trail takes users for another 1.2 miles around the pond, and then transitions into an elevated boardwalk for 0.4 miles. Along the boardwalk are two additional scenic overlooks, allowing for views of the salt marsh and beach. The trail transitions back to packed crushed stone and continues through an upland pine forest for 0.3 miles before reaching the Herring Point parking area.
This trail connects is a great connection between the two coastal towns of Lewes & Rehoboth. It is a trail that is perfect for all ages & ability levels.
